Island Peak Climbing is also sometimes referred to as Imja Tse Peak Climbing. This adventurous journey takes you to the lofty heights of Island peak, standing at 6189m. This outstanding mountain likes in the Imja valley of the Everest region. That; why the peak is also named Imja Tse, after the name of its valley.
Likewise, there is an interesting reason behind the name Island peak too. Back in 1953, a group from the British expedition gave that name to the peak. It was because the peak appeared as an island in a sea as viewed from Dingboche. Similarly, it was the same year, the peak was first ascended. It was by a British expedition team that included Tenzing Norgay, Charles Evans, Alfred Gregory, Charles Wylie, and other Sherpas.
To climb Island Peak, you begin with a short yet scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Then, you start trekking for the next few days. There, you will explore villages like Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Periche, Lobuche, and more. You can also explore the Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar before heading to Island Peak Base Camp.
So, you will make your summit on Island peak from its base camp. The climb is going to be strenuous as the path has many steeper sections of rock and ice. If everything goes as planned, you will complete the climb with a day and head all the way back to Chuckung.
