Mount Lhotse, ranging from 8516 meters, is the fourth highest peak in the world. It’s a part of the Mahalagur Himal range and lies in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Being one of the majestic peaks, Lhotse is a good choice for a Himalayan expedition. Meanwhile, the first successful expedition to Mt. Lhotse was on May 18, 1956, by Fritze Luchsinger and Ernst Reiss.
The climbing route to Lhotse follows the same route as in the Mountain Everest expedition. Lhotse massif consists of Lhotse East (8414m), Lhotse (8516m), and Lhotse Shar (8383m). And many climbers prefer to take the western face as the normal Lhotse climbing route. It’s because the southern face of Lhotse is the world’s largest mountain face soar that ranges high up to 3.2 km.
Hence, we will also be climbing from the western face. This stretch up to the summit is also called the Lhotse Couloir. It’s also the most challenging part of the climb as it measures 80 degrees steep. And also it features two rocky areas: the Yellow Ban and the Geneva Spur. Apart from this, there are periodic snowfalls and heavy wind.
However, Mt. Lhotse Expedition is a great alternative to the Everest expedition. It’s more affordable as the permit costs less but the type of climb is similar. And while you climb, you pass through the steepest face in the world. Also to add on, climbing Lhotse can be done along with the Everest expedition since the two peaks are connected by the South Col.
The whole Mt. Lhotse Expedition will take you around 56 days. You will begin your journey from Kathmandu. If you choose us, we’ll make sure to provide the best services to take the greatest challenge.
